Why is Krishna colored blue?
One of the theories is that Vishnu, because of his association with water, is depicted blue; therefore all his incarnations including Krishna, are shown as such. In Hinduism, persons who have depth of character and the capacity to fight evil are depicted as blue skinned. Another theory refers to Vishnu implanting two hairs, one black and the other white in Devaki's womb which miraculously got transferred to Rohini's and as a result, from the black hair Krishna tool birth, with a dark skin, and from the white hair his brother Balarama.

The theory of the blue coloring of Krishna goes to the fact that the Creator has given the maximum of blue to nature i.e. the sky, the oceans, the rivers and lakes. The deity who has the qualities of bravery, manliness, determination, the ability to deal with difficult situations, of stable mind and depth of character is represented as blue colored. Lord Krishna spent his life protecting humanity and destroying evil, hence he is colored blue.

Why do Hindu Deities have so many arms?
Image worship crept almost imperceptibly into Indian religions and was not only finally sanctioned in the religious scriptures but the images themselves, and the rituals for their worship were also described in greater detail. One of the results of this process, more especially the merging of two or more deities, was that some of the gods were shown as having several qualities. Showing them with several arms when he made images of the gods solved the visual problem that this created for the sculptor or artist. Each hand would hold some object, which would symbolize or represent the various qualities of that particular deity. Some of the hands would be empty but the position of the fingers and the palms would signify the character of that god. For example, if the fingers are pointing towards the ground, it means that the god is of a charitable disposition whereas the fingers pointing upwards, as in a blessing, signify a protector. These gestures symbolized their individual powers and differentiated them from other deities.

What is Atman (soul)?
Atman is that part of the living being that is eternal and beyond physical description. It is the true Self, the eternal soul that dwells within but has no personal characteristics. Atman is the birthless, deathless reality that is at once the innermost being of each person and the inmost being of all that, which exists. Atman, more fully, is that which pervades all; which is the subject and which knows experiences and illuminates the subjects and which remains always the same. In many of the Upanishads the meaning of atman is uncertain, since it may designate either the supreme and transcendent spirit or the finite individual self of man. According to Vedanta philosophy, the atman is of the same nature as the Universal Soul (Brahman), and as such seeks union with it in mystical liberation (Moksha).

What does Namaskar mean?
Namaskar is the most popular form of greeting in India. It is a general salutation and is used as a welcome and also a farewell. Namaskar also means 'I BOW TO THEE'. The palms are placed together and raised to touch the forehead, the position of the Third Eye. Together, the hands symbolize the One Mind; or the Self, meeting the Self; the right hand representing the holy, or higher nature, and the left, the worldly, or lower nature. Another term used for this greeting is namaste. Namaste may have originated in the ancient times as a showing of hands to prove that no arms were being carried.

Anjaneya

Hanuman, also known as 'Anjaneya' (son of Anjana mata) or Maruti, is one of the most worshipped Hindu god. He is Parama bhaktha (Staunch or ardent devotee of Lord Rama). Rama is present in each and every breath of Hanuman. Whereever Rama Nama Jaap is done, there appears this purest selfless bhaktha, ShreeRamabantu (servant of Rama).
Anjana matha along with her husband Kesari performed intense prayers to Shiva to beget them a child. Pleased with their devotion, Shiva granted them the boon they sought.Hence, Lord Hanuman is also known as "Maharudra" because he was born out of the boon given to Anjana by Shiva who is known as Rudradeva.
Devotees worship Hanuman on Tuesday and Saturday by offering Sindhuram ( Orange Vermillion), beetle leaves, Appams (Sweet dish made of Jaggery), Bananas, Butter, Mustard oil lamps which pleases Hanuman. Any graha dosha caused due to Saturn Maharaj will be driven away by worshipping Hanuman.

The story behind worshipping hanuman with sindhoor goes like this. After the battle (Rama & Ravan Yuddham) and defeat of Ravana, Lord Rama and Seetha retuned to Ayodhya. Hanuman who is an ardent devotee of Rama asked Seetha maa, the reason for applying Sindhoor (Hindu custom of applying vermillion on married women's forehead ). Sita mata replied " Sindhoor keeps her with DHEERGHA SUMANGALI which mean increase the lifespan of her husband Rama. The very next moment Hanuman applied Sindhoor all over his body. Sree Rama and Sita questioned Hanuman for decorating his body with Sindhoor. Hanuman replied " My prabhu (lord rama) should have a longlife, so applied all over my body". From then, Lord Rama granted a boon to hanuman that whoever worship this parama bhaktha Anjaneya with sindhoor, their wishes get fulfilled, blessed with long life and are also equally loved by Rama.
Worshipping Lord Hanuman protect devotees from the troubles of Sanidev. Lord Hanuman is said to have rescued Shanidev from the clutches of Ravana in Ramayana and in gratitude Shanidev promised to reduce his ill effects on Hanuman devotees especially if they pray to Lord Hanuman on Saturdays.
Another version goes like this, it is said that when it was time for Sanidev to influence the life of Lord Hanuman, Shanidev climbed on to Hanuman's shoulder and fearless Hanuman immediately assumed a large size, and Shanidev was caught painfully between Hanuman's shoulders. As the pain was untolerable, Shanidev requested Lord Hanuman to release him and in return promised to reduce the malefic effects of Shani for those who pray Hanuman. Thus worship of Lord Hanuman is recommended to reduce the harsh effects of the unfavourable presence of Lord Shanidev.

Meaning of Hanuman Chalisa

With the dust of Guru’s Lotus feet, I clean the mirror of my mind and narrate sacred glory of Sri Ram , The Supreme among the Raghukul. The giver of the four attainments of life.
Knowing myself to be ignorant, I urge you, The son of Pavan! kindly bestow on me strength, wisdom and knowledge, removing all my shortcomings and evilness.
Victory of Thee, O Hanuman, Ocean of wisdom and virtue, victory to the Lord of monkeys who is well known in all the three worlds.
Messenger of Ram with enormous strength, you are also known as “Anjaniputra” and the son of the Air God.
Oh Hanuman ! You are valiant and brave, with a body like lightening. You remove darkness of evil thoughts and are a companion of good sense and wisdom.
Shri Hanuman ’s physique is gold colored. His dress is pretty, wearing ear-rings and his hairs are long and curly.
Shri Hanuman is holding in one hand a lighting bolt and in the other hand a banner with the sacred thread across his shoulder.
Oh Hanuman You are the emanation of ‘SHIVA’ and you delight Shri Keshri. The entire world propitiates.. You are adorable of all.
Oh Hanuman You are the repository of learning, virtue, you are very wise and are keen to do the works of Lord Ram.
You are eager to listen to the narration of Lord Ram’s story and revel on its enjoyment. You are in the hearts of Lord Rama, Sita and Lakshman.
You appeared before Sita in a very small form and spoke to her, while you assumed an huge form and struck terror by setting Lanka kingdom on fire.
O Hanuman with your big form you killed demons of Lanka and performed all acts of lord Ram.
When Hanumanji made Lakshman alive after bringing “Sanjivni” herb Lord Ram hugged you, His heart full of joy.
Shri Ram extolled Hanumanji’s excellence and remarked, “you are as dear to me as my own brother Bharat”
Shri Ram embraced Hanumanji saying: “Let the thousand - tongued ’sheshnaag’ sing your glories”
The sages, saints, Lord Brahma, Narad and Goddess Saraswati along with Sheshnag the serpent, fail to sing the glories of Hanumanji properly.
What to talk of denizens of the earth like poets and scholars even Gods like Yamraj, Kuber, and Digpal fail to narrate Hanman’s greatness.
Hanumanji! You obliged Sugriva, you united him with Lord Ram and got him the Royal Throne.
It is known all over the universe that by following your advice, Vibhushana became King of Lanka kingdom.
Hanumanji you gulped Lord Sun at distance of thousands miles considering it to be a sweet fruit.
Carrying the Lord’s ring in his mouth, you went across the ocean. There is no wonder in that.
Oh Hanumanji all the difficult tasks of this world is made easy by your grace.
Oh Hanumanji You are guarding the door of Lord Ram’s mercy mansion or His divine abode. No one may enter without your permission.
By your grace one can enjoy all happiness and one need not have any fear under your protection.
When you roar all the three worlds tremble and only you can control your might.
Hanuman’s name keeps all the Ghosts, Demons & evils spirits away.
On reciting Hanumanji’s name all the maladies and pain disappears.
Those who remember Hanumanji in thought, word and deed are well guarded against their odds in life.
Oh Hanuman You are the caretaker of even Lord Rama, who has been hailed as the Supreme Lord and the Monarch of all those devoted in penances.
Oh Hanuman You fulfill the desires of those who come to you.
Oh Hanuman Your magnificent glory is acclaimed far and wide all through the four worlds and your fame is all over the cosmos.
Oh Hanuman You are the saviour of saints and sages and destroys the Demons, you are the darling of Lord Ram.
Hanuman has been blessed with mother Janki to grant to any one any yogic power of eight Sidhis.
Oh Hanuman You hold the essence of devotion to Lord Ram, always remaining His Servant.
Oh Hanumanji! through devotion to you, one comes to RAM and becomes free from suffering of several lives.
After death he enters the eternal abode of Sri Ram and remains a devotee of him, whenever, taking new birth on earth.
You need not hold any other God in mind. Hanumanji will give all happiness.
Oh Powerful Hanuman end the sufferings and remove all the pain from those who remember you.
Hail Hail Hail Lord Hanuman I beseech your Honour to bless me in the capacity of my supreme teacher.
One who recites this Hanuman Chalisa one hundred times becomes free from the bondage of life and death and enjoys the highest bliss at last.
As Lord Shankar witnesses, all those who recite Hanuman Chalisa regularly are sure to be benedicted.
Tulsidas always the servant of Lord prays. “Oh my Lord! You stay within my heart”.
O Shri Hanuman, The Son of Lord Air, Saviour The Embodiment of blessings, stay in my heart with Shri Ram, Laxman and Sita.
